Hey Skeeter,
I am not in the know here. I have heard a dozen stories and seen about that many on forums etc. You are so right. Even if you know the lake like the back of your hand, you need to always be aware that others may not.
This was no doubt a split second of not paying attention or whatever that caused this. Whether it was one's fault or the other's is not important to me. We lost a good man as a result of it.
I think it was about 9 a.m. on Friday morning at the mouth of Little Mustang, but I am not certain of that.
Be careful man.

I've been on the lake and have seen this sort of thing almost happen a dozen times. Its sad to hear that it finally happened. Since you seem to be one in the know, are there any other details that you could share with us? Time of day, location, any other words of caution?

All I can say is for you guys running the lake, please keep a wary eye. Although you may know the boat lanes and areas that are good for running wide open, there are plenty others here for the first time.

I'm out there all the time and would hate to pull up to a scene like this.

I don't understand the hype about the 797c2 SI. The technology is great, but if it won't
stay on boat, what's the use? I've snapped one bracket already in 4 days of use. The new
bracket is already stressed. I know a guy that has lost 3 transducers because of broken
brackets that cause it to dangle and eventually snap the wire. The flailing unit took a chip
out of the gelcoat of my brand new $40,000 rig. Transom mount is not worth it, and I'm not
drilling through my hull for a thru-hull mount. The bracket will snap over 50 mph or if you
hit chop at slower speeds. What's good about that?

Money spent on fishing is well spent, the rest and relaxation and fun you get are well worth it!

I got stuck in Dallas last week, in the airlines issue, so I scooted over to Lake Fork and fished with Scott (owner of this bigbasscountry site).

I caught a 5lb 11oz beauty, she was kind of short, but very fat and her pectoral fins were all marked up from her time on her bed. Man, what a fish! Making memories! My money was better spent fishing than on the beer we drank. Wait, I take that back, it was all good.

Scott, thanks for turning a biz trip gone bad (thanks American Airlines!) into a great bass trip!!!

Thanks for the mention, Scott.

Amazingly, that figure is just for NY, as I read it. There's a US Fish and Game document from 2001 (Link: http://library.fws.gov/Pubs/Black_Bass_Report_2001-10.pdf) (Table 9, Page 16) that shows that nationally, fishermen spent close to $19B including food and lodging in 2001. That's national for sure.

In 8 years, it's very possible that this figure could have almost doubled, which would put New Yorker's spend into perspective.

I'll decline to mention that trout fisherman also generally have a higher education than do black bass fishermen, per that document. Just sayin. :)

Hey Kev,
We had a blast man! Yeah, that Grady has destroyed my G Rating :)
I use iMovie on my iMac, that I got a GREAT deal on at Vanns.com, to mix down the videos. It does a great job and is really easy to use. If you are on Windows, Sony Vegas costs about a hundred bucks and also does a great job. Part of the trick to getting good quality video is to use a size format just larger than YouTube's 350x425 default size. If you use one just smaller, it stretches the video and you lose definition. If you use one just larger it shrinks it and that does nothing to harm the definition. Look at my earlier videos and you can see that I only recently discovered that ;)

Now that's a motley crew.

Tell Grady to stop dropping F bombs on camera or he'll never get his own show on Outdoor Life network....

Scott: What program are you using to edit video? I've been messing with Youtube a bit, but I'm not happy with my video quality.
